Unusual Calla Lily Bloom
This year I had a calla lily blooming with another one inside of it. Is this an oddity?
Though not common gardeners, propagators and plant breeders are constantly discovering unusual growth in plants. Some are mutations caused by the plants response to the environment and others may be the result of natural or intentional hybridizing. The mutations may persist from season to season and be passed along to offspring or just appear for the one season. So enjoy the show and wait to see if it reappears next year. If the unusual growth persists and it gets lots of second looks from visitors you may want to check out Ball Ingenuity program recently launched by Ball Horticultural Company. This new program is designed to help find new plants from around the world and introduce them to the home garden.
