Snow Mold in the Spring Lawn
After this winter, my yard has patches of flattened whitish brown grass. Is it dead? Can I do anything to improve it?
One effect of a snowy winter is snow mold in the spring. You may have even noticed a fuzzy gray or pink growth over the surface. Lightly rake these areas to speed drying and stimulate grass growth. In early May, reseed areas that do not recover form the damage. Encourage healthy growth with proper watering, fall fertilization and a light raking of areas where snow tends to linger late into the spring.
