Pruning Fairy Rose

When is the proper time to trim my Fairy rose? How should I go about trimming the plants?  They no longer fit under my rose cones.

The Fairy rose needs minimal pruning and care.  Remove dead canes to ground level in spring.  Trim back any stem tips that may have been damaged or killed over winter.  Shape as needed.  Don't worry about covering with a rose cone.  The Fairy rose is hardy to zone 4.  Those on the northern hardiness limits or have had problems in the past may want to provide some mulch over the crown of the plant after the ground freezes in fall.  Mine has been growing successfully in zone 5 with no winter protection for more than ten years.
