Problems with Peony
I have peonies I was given many years ago. They come up with red leaves in early spring but unlike other peonies the leaves that way. They also never flower. I have tried moving them but nothing seems to help.
Start with a soil test. Nutrient deficiencies can cause discolored leaves and poor or no flowering. If this isn’t the problem the plants may be suffering from a virus or yellows disease. The only solution for these diseases is to remove the infected plant. Do not replant a peony in the same location the diseased plants were growing. Visit the United States Department of Agriculture website www.csrees.usda.gov to find your local Extension Service for information on soil testing and plant disease diagnostic labs that can analyze the plant tissue for the presence of disease.
