Prevent Scorch and Brown Leaves on Hostas

We live in the Midwest and I'm wondering how to keep hostas from starting to turn brown in August.

Hostas grow best in part to full shade. The leaf edges will turn brown in sun or extreme heat. Reduce the risk by growing hostas in full to part shade. Avoid planting locations that receive hot afternoon sun. Mulch the soil with shredded leaves, evergreen needles or other organic matter to keep the soil cool and moist. This also creates a perfect environment for slugs while improving the growing conditions for the hosta. Try Sluggo or one of the other more environmentally friendly slug baits that contain the active ingredient, iron phosphate, if a slug problem develops and control is desired. Water the plants thoroughly and often enough to keep the soil slightly moist.
