Prevent Floppy Sedum

We have quite a few sedum plants around our house that look great in the fall when the blossoms turn rose colored. Unfortunately the big flowers on tall stems cause the plants to flop. I usually stake them but it doesn’t look natural. Any suggestions?

Sedum plants growing in full sun are less likely to flop. Avoid high nitrogen fertilizer that can also encourage floppy growth. Pruning will help reduce or eliminate this problem. Pinch out the growing tips of shorter stems or cut back 8 inch stems to 4 inches early in the season. This encourages more compact growth and sturdier stems that should not need staking. Finish pruning by mid June to avoid delays in flowering.
