Poor Fall Color on Burning Bush

We have a burning bush that doesn't "burn" (turn red) in the fall. It is otherwise healthy and growing in a sheltered southern exposure.

Shade and too much nitrogen fertilizer can result in little or no fall color on this and other deciduous plants. Most trees and shrubs need minimal fertilization. A feeding every 3rd to 5th spring before growth begins is usually sufficient. Let the health and vigor of your plants be your fertilization guide. Plants growing in sandy soils may need to be fertilized a little more often than those growing in clay soil.
