Planting Seeds of Moonflower Vine

We have a moonflower vine and would like to start more. We have harvested the seedpods and now would like to start more this spring. Do we plant the whole pod or the seeds inside? What else should we know?

Remove the seeds from the seedpods before planting. The hard moonflower seeds will need a little help from you to germinate.  Soak the seeds in warm water for 24 hours before planting.  This will soften the seed coat and encourage sprouting.  Or clip the end of the seed to allow it to absorb water so it can start growing. Some gardeners do both, clip the end of the seed and then soak it in water overnight before planting.  You can plant the seeds directly outdoors after the danger of frost or start the seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last spring frost.
