Overwintering Container Garden
I am trying to overwinter one of my outdoor container gardens indoors. It is filled with sweet potato vines and geraniums. The plants do not look so good. Should I fertilize?
Move the container to the sunniest window in your home. Water thoroughly whenever the top few inches of soil are crumbly and moist. The warmer you keep your home the more often you will need to water. Wait to fertilize. Feeding stressed houseplants can actually injure the plants. Use a very dilute solution of a flowering plant fertilizer once the plants have adjusted to the new location and are producing healthy new growth. This is often in late February or early March when the light intensity improves and the plants show signs of recovering from the winter stress.
