Overwintering Cigar Plant
Recently I received a beautiful plant I have never seen before called cigar plant. Can I save the plant for next year?
Cigar plant, also known botanically as Cuphea ignea, has made a recent comeback in our landscapes. This tender perennial, hardy in zones 10 and 11, can be grown as an annual flower in the garden or as a houseplant indoors. Overwinter garden plants indoors in a sunny window. Water as needed to keep the soil slightly moist. Add artificial light to improve the plants health and vigor if the plants are suffering from the reduced light of shorter often gray winter days. You can either move potted plants indoors or start new plants from cuttings. I like the latter since you don't bring in unwanted pests and the smaller plants take up less indoor growing space.
