Nightshade

The picture in the attachment is a vine that is in the Minot, ND Zoo. If you could help, I would like to find out what it is.

The vine is bitter nightshade (Solanum dulcamara). It is a perennial that spreads by both seeds and creeping stems that root when they come in contact with the soil. I find this climbing through plants, along fence lines or anywhere it can get a foothold. The berries are also mildly poisonous. Remove plants as discovered. Mulching the soil will also help reduce the number of seeds that successfully germinate and grow. If you opt for a chemical, make sure it won’t harm nearby plants and of course the animals.
