Native Plant Information

Can you tell me where I can find information about the flowers growing along the highway? I have a wooded lot and feel such plantings could be attractive.

Stop by and visit a nearby nature center. They have wonderful native plantings suited to your area and a woodland setting. Most nature centers supply lists of companies that sell native plants. Also, The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center of the University of Texas at Austin has put together a native plant information network filled with thousands of natives from throughout the country. It can be found at www.wildflower.org . Before you duplicate the roadside plantings make sure the plants you select are suited for the area and not invasive. Some roadside plantings contain pretty but invasive weeds, such as teasel, and groundcovers like crown vetch that can take over a landscape and invade our natural areas.
