How to Control Sod Webworm

I need information on how to control sod webworms. I have had problems with them every year for the three years we have lived here. I am looking for an easy, quick and cheap solution as I was recently laid-off.

I don’t have a quick and easy solution but I do have some eco-friendly options. It is the immature worm-like larval stage (caterpillar) of the dull colored adult sod webworm that causes problems. Their feeding results in thinning and eventually bare patches in the lawn. Start by keeping your lawn healthy. Mow high, fertilize properly and leave your clippings on the lawn. A healthy lawn is better able to fend off this and other insects and diseases. This may be enough to manage small populations. Neem and Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) are effective on the young larvae. These products are sensitive to heat and sunlight so apply them late in the day or early in the evening. And as with any product be sure to read and follow label directions.
