Hostas for Sunnier Locations
Are there any varieties of Hostas that would do well on a slope that doesn't get shade until late afternoon?
The American Hosta Society recommends the following cultivars for sunnier areas:
- August Moon
- Fortunei Aureomarginata
- Fragrant Bouquet
- Francee
- Gold Regal
- Gold Standard
- Honeybells
- Invincible
- Minuteman
- Patriot
- Regal Splendor
- Rising Sun
- Royal Standard
- So Sweet
- Sum and Substance
- Summer Fragrance
- Sun Power
- Sundance
- Undulata Albomarginata
- Undulata Univitata
These leafy plants will dry out faster in the sun than in their preferred shady location. Mulch the soil with shredded leaves, evergreen needles or other organic mulch. Check them often and provide enough water to keep the soil around their roots moist but not wet.
