Groundcover for Rose Garden
I have a rose garden off my patio and need a ground cover or something to go with them. I want something to accent the roses but wouldn’t look woody after they bloomed.
Here are some good rose companions. Catmint (Nepeta x faasenii) has gray-green fragrant foliage and blue flowers for most of the summer. Be sure to purchase a tame cultivar like Six Hills Giant or Walker’s Low. Cut them back mid season if the plant gets floppy. Creeping baby’s breath (Gypsophila repens) or a dwarf cultivar of the regular baby’s breath combines nicely with roses. Calamint (Calamintha nepeta nepeta), has white or pink to lavender blooms. This forms an airy clump that reminds me a bit of baby’s breath.
