Grass Clippings

Is it best to bag my grass clippings when mowing, or let them fall on the ground?

Leave grass clippings on the lawn. They break down quickly adding organic matter, nitrogen and moisture to the soil. Extra long clippings, you know, the ones in spring when you can’t keep up with the fast growing grass, will need extra attention. If you don’t have a mulching mower – make an extra pass with your standard mower to reduce the long clipping size and speed decomposition. Leaving clippings on the lawn all season is equivalent to applying one pound of actual nitrogen per 1000 square feet. That’s one fertilizer application.
