Good Time to Transplant Roses
When is a good time to move my rose bush to another location in the yard?
Spring, before growth begins, is a great time to transplant roses, trees and shrubs. Southern gardeners and those in warm climates will also have success with fall transplants. Take as much of the root system as you can manage. The more roots you can move with the rose the quicker the recovery. But a large rootball is no advantage if you drop and break it during transplanting. Try to dig a rootball at least 12 inches in diameter and 9 inches deep for a 2 foot tall shrub and 16 inches in diameter and 12 inches deep for a 4 foot high plant. Move your rose to a sunny area with well-drained soil. Mulch the soil around the rose and water thoroughly as needed. Proper post transplanting care is critical for plant's survival.
