Good Companion Plant for Fairy Rose
I have a sunny spot at the end of my driveway where I planted several small pink fairy roses. What would a good companion plant be next to these bloomers?
The Fairy is on of my favorite roses. This hardy, pest resistant and repeat blooming rose is a nice addition to perennial gardens, shrub borders and mixed beds. Try teaming is with calamint, Calmentha nepetoides (also listed as Calamentha and Calamintha). This airy plant grows 15 to 20 inches tall and wide. The airy spikes are covered with tiny white flowers that turn blue with age.
Walker's Low catmint also makes a good companion. The gray-green fragrant foliage is covered with blue flowers for most of the summer.
I have mine teamed with Salvia argentea. The large silvery leaves resemble a lamb's ear on steroids and provide nice contrast to the glossy green leaves of the rose. I usually remove the flowering stem on this salvia as soon as it appears to keep the foliage looking its best.
