Getting Amaryllis to Rebloom

I have three amaryllis plants. I put them outside each summer. How can I get them to rebloom?

Amaryllis are difficult to rebloom. Now that the plants are indoors cut back on the watering and stop fertilizing. Once the leaves have yellowed and dried move the plants into a cool dark location. The bulbs will rest for several months. In January or once new growth appears move the plants to a warm sunny location. Water as needed. With some luck you will have flowers. Keep them growing as houseplants until you can move them outdoors for the summer. A gardener once told me he had great success using the following method. He plants his amaryllis bulbs directly in the garden each summer. He digs them in late summer and stores them in a cool dark location as bare-root bulbs. He starts the bulbs indoors in early January. It is important to use a pot only about one inch larger in diameter than the bulb. Each year he is rewarded with flowers.
