Get Your Smokebush to Smoke

We have several smoke trees in our yard. Only one of the trees has flowered and produced those fluffy flowers. How can we get the others to produce the “smoke”?

Maturity, proper placement, and benign neglect are the keys to flowering. All plants need a few years to enter the flowering stage of life. It varies with the type of plant and even the individual specimen. Patience may be the solution if your smoke trees are relatively young. In the meantime evaluate the growing conditions and your care. Smoke trees prefer full sun, well-drained soil and very little fertilizer. Those growing in heavy shade will have few or no flowers. Avoid high nitrogen fertilizers that encourage lots of leaves and no bloom.
