Flander's Poppy
I would like to plant poppies in memory of our veterans. What is the red poppy always associated with veterans and Flander’s Field? Can it be grown in the north?
The famous red poppy often called Flanders, corn or field poppy is Papaver rhoeas. It is native to Eurasia and North Africa but can be found growing in many countries. This summer blooming annual grows best in full sun and fertile well-drained soil. You may have to order seeds from a garden catalogue or contact nearby garden centers that carry less common flowers.
