Earthworms Creating Holes, Lumps and Bumps in the Lawn
Earthworms are ruining my lawn. They are creating lumps, bumps and small holes.
Earthworms are nature's aerators. Their feeding and movement through the soil help increase organic matter and create air spaces that help our lawns and gardens grow. Try living with the lumpy lawn, it means the earthworms are hard at work improving the soil. You can also topdress the lawn. Spread a thin layer of compost or blended topsoil over the lawn. Rake to spread out the soil and level the lawn surface. If this is not possible use an empty roller on moist, not wet, soil. Running the roller over the lawn will help smooth out some of the lumpy areas but won’t give the long lasting results you are looking for. Never use a water-filled roller or roll a lawn when the soil is wet. This will compact clay soils resulting in poor plant growth.
