Dividing Tulips

I recently dug up some tulip bulbs to divide. They were much smaller than when I originally planted them. Should I replant these at the original depth or shallower? Are they even worth saving?

Hybrid tulips are often short lived in our less than ideal growing conditions. Look at it as an opportunity to try something new. Replace them with species and perennializing tulips if you want bulbs with a longer lifespan. If you have plenty of gardening space and like a challenge, replant the old bulbs 6 inches deep. Add a little bulb booster fertilizer at planting. It is worth a try to see if you can extend their flowering life.
