Dividing Hosta

I’ve heard of a process where you can use a bulb planter to divide the root base of hostas. Do you know if this works?

Gardeners find some very creative ways to get a job done. I prefer a shovel to dig and a linoleum knife to cut the plant clump into several divisions. The bulb digger should work. The key would be positioning the planter around the crowns of the plant and applying enough pressure to dig through the roots. I would try it on one of my less expensive hostas first.
