Creeping Charlie in the Lawn
My lawn is slowly being overtaken by creeping Charlie. I have tried various weed controls including borax. None have worked.
This fragrant groundcover tolerated foot traffic, produces attractive purple flowers and grows in sun, shade and difficult conditions. Still want to kill it? Well, timing is the key to successfully eliminating this weed.
Treat with a broadleaf weed killer in spring when the plants are in full bloom or after a hard freeze in fall will kill the plant. Just keep in mind there are lots of seeds in the soil waiting for a bit of space to sprout and grow.
Apply the broadleaf weedkiller at the recommended rate for the most effective control.
You may want to try the new chelated iron weed killers. This natural selective herbicide kills broadleaf weeds, but not your grass.
Consider treating only problem areas to minimize your use of chemicals. Whether using traditional or new environmentally friendly products, read and follow label directions carefully.
