Clematis Foliage is Yellow
Why does the foliage on my clematis turn yellow? It's planted next to the house where it receives morning sun.
Try mulching the soil to keep the roots cool and moist. If the problem persists have the soil tested to find out what if anything you need to add to the soil. Acid soils and nutrient deficiencies can cause yellow leaves on these alkaline loving plants. Don't just guess - follow your soil test. Adding too much lime to sweeten (raise the pH) the soil or over fertilizing can injure even kill the plant and creates problems that take years to correct. Cool soil temperatures and tomato ring virus can cause yellow leaves in early spring. As the soil warms and chlorophyll begins to mask the disease symptoms the leaves green up for the remainder of the season. Patience is all that is needed if this is the problem.
