Caring for Geraniums Over Winter

I have two large pots of geraniums that I brought into the house before frost and now have them in our sunroom. What is the best way to preserve these so I may take them outside again in spring? Do I treat them as a houseplant, prune back, store in a cool dark place? I have heard various options.

Move your geraniums to a sunny window or place it under an artificial light for best results. Water them thoroughly and frequently enough to keep the soil slightly moist. Cut back long spindly stems throughout the winter. This encourages stouter more compact growth plus you can use the clippings to start new plants. Most plants need little or no fertilizer over the winter. Use a dilute solution of flowering houseplant fertilize if the plant is actively growing, has pale leaves or showing other signs it needs a fertilizer boost.
