Care for Gerbera Daisy

I received a plant called Gerbera for a gift and I don't know how to best care for it - can it go outside?

Gerbera daisies are great plants for the in-ground or container garden.  They prefer full to part sun and well-drained soils.   This is a perennial hardy to zone 8 but grown as an annual in colder climates.  You can try over-wintering the plant indoors as a houseplant.   Move the plant indoors before the first fall frost.  Grow in a sunny location and water thoroughly whenever the soil starts to dry.
