Amending Clay Soil

We built a house 3 years ago.  Unfortunately we were left with no topsoil, just lots of clay.  I have been amending the soil but the trees and shrubs are all rotting away.

It takes years to rebuild lost soil. Continue to add organic matter, leave grass clippings on the lawn and use organic mulches.  This will help improve the drainage and structure of the soil.  Consider creating raised beds and planting berms for your plants. Raising the planting area helps improve drainage even when using the existing soil.  Create the beds with the amended soil or purchase a blended topsoil mix from a reliable company for better results.
