- Philodendron is a tough plant that is usually killed with kindness and prefers a little benign neglect
- Allow soil to dry between waterings
- Never let plants stand in water
- Fertilize with a diluted houseplant fertilizer

- Propagate by cuttings or air layering
- Problems
- Brown tips can be caused by too much fertilizer or overwatering. Aphids, mealybugs, scale and spider mites are occassional problems. Keep philodendrons away from pets or children as this plant can be toxic if eaten.

- Variegatum - grey, green and cream streaked foliage
- Aureum - chartreuse foliage
- Neon - bright chartreuse leaves
- Brasil - narrow, creamy green stripe down middle of leaves
