I have purple violets in my lawn. I have tried several different weed killers but had no success killing them.
Violets are considered a beautiful wildflower by some and a nasty weed by others. If you can't live with them choosing the right product and applying it at the right time will help reduce their population and minimize pesticide use. Herbicides with the active ingredient triclopyr or labeled for violet control should be applied in mid September and again in late October. Avoid using weedkillers with dicamba and banvel near trees and shrubs. Remember there may be a large source of seeds in the soil so it can take several years to control this weed and its offspring. As always be sure to read and follow all label directions carefully.
