| Organic Mulch |
|
Use shredded leaves, evergreen needles and herbicide-free grass clippings as a mulch in your garden. Spread a one or two inch layer these organic materials over the soil surface surrounding. Add more as the first layer starts to settle and decompose. Organic mulch helps conserve moisture, insulate plant roots from temperature extremes, reduce compaction, prevents erosion and reduce weeds. As the mulch breaks down it adds organic matter to the soil improving drainage in heavy soils and water holding capacity in sandy soils.
