Looking for a last minute gift for mom? Don’t worry there is plenty of time to create the perfect gift she will enjoy all season long.
Now select a container with drainage holes and one suited for decorating. And if money is tight or you want to be a bit more creative use old pots and discarded or recycled items as containers. A coat of paint or pretty design will make them look new and add a personal touch to any container you select. Outdoor acrylic paints and permanent markers work great. Or decorate a watering can. Select an inexpensive plain plastic watering can. Have the kids cut out pictures of mom’s favorite flowers, birds and butterflies. Glue these onto the watering can and apply a layer or two of decoupage to protect their design. I still have the one my daughter made for me some twenty years ago. A bit more information: Include a homemade card to complete the gift. Pressed flowers and leaves, photos of mom’s garden and favorite plant, or rubbings over flowers, leaves and tree bark can provide a pretty backdrop to a favorite poem, handprint or sincere thanks. |

Pack up the family and head to your favorite garden center. Have each child select a plant or combination of plants for mom. Check the tags and make sure they will grow in the available sun and shade.
