(8/03/2010) Gardening expert, TV host and author Melinda Myers will be presenting “Room to Grow” at 9:45 and 2 p.m. daily at We Energies’ Energy Park during the 2010 Wisconsin State Fair, which runs Aug. 5-15.
Myers’ presentation will reveal how to transform a landscape or maximize the growing space in existing gardens. She’ll provide information to attendees on how to add color and beauty from the ground up, talk about the importance of proper spacing, share ways to incorporate edibles as well as solutions for shade, and provide some low maintenance, eco-friendly gardening tips.
For the kids and also at We Energies’ Energy Park there will be Green & Growing Kids activities @ 11:15 a.m. Myers will be heading up the kids programs on Aug. 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15. Kids will have the opportunity to grow their own worms and start a rosemary plant to take home.
Myers encourages all fair goers to check out the new We Energies’ Energy Park area. “The garden underwent a major renovation this year,” explained Myers. “The plants in the central and northeast corner gardens had outgrown their space and impeded visibility. Thanks to the help of the Wisconsin Landscape Contractors Association and several garden centers, growers, and suppliers, we were able to create an exciting new garden. The Commercial Flower Growers of Wisconsin helped brighten up Energy Park with containers full of new flower varieties and old favorites, creating a beautiful area for people to relax and enjoy some green space during the Fair.”
Lastly, on Saturday, August 7 at noon in the Horticulture, Craft and Culinary Pavilion at the Wisconsin State Fair, Myers will be one of the judges for the “Grand Champion Floral Challenge.” The designers are first place winners from their spring convention design contest. They will create an arrangement from a surprise package of fresh flowers and supplies.
“I’m excited about being so involved with the State Fair again this year,” said Myers. “It’s always a great place to share new ideas, meet fellow gardeners and hopefully spread my love of gardening.”
