Spring Garden Tips
Using Rain Barrels

Make an environmental fashion statement by incorporating rain barrels into your landscape design. Select a rain barrel that fits the space and design of your landscape. They now come in a variety of colors to complement your house and shapes to fit even tight spaces. Purchase or make a rain barrel with a screen cover to keep out insects and debris. Make sure it has a spigot at the bottom of the barrel for easy emptying and use of the collected water. Consider multiple barrels and use of an overflow device for periods of heavy rainfall. Remember one inch of rainfall on a 500 square foot roofgenerates over 300 gallons of water.
